Corporate Social Investment Programme:  Rally to Read

About Rally to Read

Established in 1998, Rally to Read aims to involve corporates in off-road convoys where rally participants visit rural areas around South Africa to deliver educational material to neglected rural schools. Andisa has participated in this programme for three consecutive years.
In January 2003, Andisa staff delivered sports equipment and stationery donated by staff to Tswetlane and Lekubushai Primary schools, located in the Northern Province. The 2004 Rally to Read held in May cost Andisa R34,500 in real terms, but we believe that our long-term contribution far exceeds this figure.

Andisa again took part in the 2005 Rally to Read held in May,  joining McCarthy's Pilanesberg (North West Province) convoy of 4x4s. The team delivered educational materials to schools in the Tswana villages north of Pilanesburg, close to the Limpopo border. This is the second year that Rally to Read visited these schools. Typically Rally's involvement per school is three years running, in order to train teachers and implement a reading system. A short presentation was held at each school, with a symbolic signing of the contract.

For the 2005 Rally to Read, the designated driver was Milton Burlin, with passengers Mwelwa and Alain Balemo and Emily Themba. The team left Saturday 28th before dawn, and arrived at Bakgatla Camp some hours later.

In May 2004, eight Andisa staff participated in "Rally to Read 2004" which took them on a trip to Mpumalanga to deliver educational materials and sports equipment to the more remote schools in the area. Andisa staff also donated sports equipment and clothing.
